The biggest differnence with the Alix boards and the net5501 in terms
of thermal design is, that the Alix boards have one.
Yes, the Alix boards do not have wenting holes, but the placement
of the CPU and the highly thermal conductivity of the aluminum case
make it a lot easier to disipate the power. The net5501 on the other
hand, has a sheet iron case that is quite isolating with just a few
holes that are at the wrong place. Hence you have to use the net5501
either in upright postion (to get a chimney effect) or to use a fan.
And yes, that's one of the issues that should have been aparent when
first testing the net5501... if not already obvious when doing the design.
Why does it take years to find the answers to
the questions one should have asked long ago?
