[Soekris] 4501 dead internal battery or faulty clock

Not long ago (~1 year) I bought a 4501 and recently it has been losing
time after reboots. I wonder if anyone else have experience with this?
Depending on how long it has been laying around at Soekris and whether
they install the battery before shipping it could be a matter of
replacing the battery, but I would expect a 'new' battery to last longer
than one year.
My fear is that it could be a faulty internal clock that would require
me to ship it back to Soekris, which is a pain since I live in Thailand.

Any ideas where to start?
