In the past I have lobbied for the SanDisk 5000 series on this list.
They are "real" SSDs in CF form factor. They are a bit old and not
terribly fast by today's standards, but they are much better than all
the camera grade junk. The cards are designed for industrial/military
I believe the 5000 series has since been replaced with something faster
(not that it'll matter much on a Soekris box). But the point still
stands: If you are tied to a CF form factor for whatever reason there
*are* options available that handle regular disk workloads gracefully.
And no. You won't find these at your average consumer electronics
store. But several computer parts retailers had them readily available
when I bought a stash a few years ago.
