[Soekris] Industrial control application

We have a dos-based industrial control application that we want to migrate
from a 'real' dos workstation to something like a network-attached virtual
dos workstation. One objective is to make it administrable via browser from
anywhere on the network rather than by physically walking up to its console.
We would like to have the DOS instance hosted on a high-availability fanless
solid state host like the NET5501's we use elsewhere. The only industrial
control I/O required is a serial port.
Has anyone done or seen anything like this on Soekris? Any projects I
should be looking at? Is Soekris the wrong fit? I've looked at Mini-ITX
type solutions. I considered building up a 'headed' ITX unit with a
wear-leveling SLC SDD, and simply sticking a KVMoIP device to it. Not
exactly elegant. We're not particularly cost sensitive. There's an
important industrial process riding on this two-bit DOS pc.
Ideas? Experiences?
Thanks!
