Typical. The mistake was when I moved the chroot hierarchy to a different partition/slice. The new location had been mounted 'nodev' and remounting it without nodev fixed the problem. The regular partition for non-chrooted /dev is on an mfs filesystem. I will try a second one for chroot... Regards -Lars
