Another possibility is something I ran across from Sans Digital today:
Their CS1T and CR2T:

These are 2.5" hard disk form-factor units (SATA interface) with room
for one or two CF cards inside. Note PIO is not supported, only DMA.
Their store lists the single CF version at $45 and dual CF at $99 (i.e.,
list price), so this might be a reasonable alternative for someone who
wants a second storage unit, internal, solid-state, but doesn't need to
go the route of an SSD unit.
I've never tried these and don't know anyone who has: I've only seen the
product page.
