[Soekris] Default net5501 disk LED behavior?

Hello,

I'm evaluating a net5501 w/bootable CF card and no HDD.  I expected, perhaps 
naively, that the DISK LED would illuminate with CF card IO.  This does not 
appear to be the case, as the DISK LED remains dark, at least after boot (I 
didn't watch/record its behavior during BIOS POST).  A search of list 
archives turned up a few messages suggesting the DISK LED behavior may have 
changed with comBIOS version, but nothing definitive:

Can someone 'illuminate' me on the expected behavior of the DISK LED?  If it's 
relevant, I'm running comBIOS v1.33.
