[Soekris] USB port recognized but non-functional on net5501

Hi all,

I've been trying to install AstLinux on my brand new net5501 and haven't
had much luck with the USB port. The port is recognized correctly on
boot, but seems unpowered - any devices I connect to it (USB flash
drives, hubs (powered and unpowered), printers) are not recognized.

Since net5501 support is only in the dev. version of AstLinux, I've also
tried Voyage Linux and OpenBSD with similar results. In each case the OS
seems to detect the port, but the port itself appears unpowered. No new
USB entries appear in dmesg output when I plug in a device.

Is there any trick to getting this to work, or could I have a bad board?
 Everything else on the board appears to work properly.
