ATA_STATIC_ID removed did the trick.

WRT to the vr(4) driver thanks big also...

Happily for me, just so happens that I'm doing some bpf(4) IF_PROMISC thingys
anyway, where (in my application) removal of the link is an 'ouch dont do that'
situation for the moment.
