Or you have another batch of those no name CF cards :-) Some seems to be 
having timing on power up, maybe the net5501 are too fast.... I am 
investigating power on / reset delays.

If you send me one of the CF cards I'll be happy to investigate, just 
send it to Soekris Europe.
