Fedora 9 has a native geode kernel. It's meant for OLPC but I bet it
will work just fine on a Soekris. I haven't tried it yet, but Fedora 8
runs great on Soekris with the stock 586 kernel.
The install is a bit of a bear. I messed around for a long time and the
PXE boot install seems to be the easiest. If you install on another
machine and move the drive over, make sure you get the 586 or geode
kernel instead of the 686 kernel or else it's big trouble for moose and
squirrel. I use a USB DVD drive, you only need to put syslinux, the
install kernel and ramdisk on the tftp server along with a very minimal
DHCP setup. You need to install mgetty, but it's not on the install
DVD, you have to download it. I put it on a USB stick, you'll also need
a USB hub unless you have access to the internal port. Boot up in
rescue mode after running the installer, install mgetty manually,
tweak /etc/inittab and /boot/grub/menu.lst, and you're all set. It's a
pain but you only have to do it once, mine has been up for months now.
