I don't give my card info out needlessly, but I don't worry about it
either. Here's why:
* It's a credit card, not a debit card. A given charge does not
automatically draw money from my bank account - I must first review
and pay the bill before the card issuer gets their money.
* My card issuer (American Express) acts responsibly and promptly
when I have an occasional disputes with a vendor.
* If someone fraudulently makes charges on my card, I simply report
the charges as such and never have to worry about it again.
* Those few vendors who don't take AmEx usually have competitors who
do. Soekris takes AmEx via Paypal, so that's fine.
Escrow is for real estate and other large purchases where the stakes
are higher than the trust level. It's too much overhead for a small
order from Soekris.
