I just thought it was worth a shot as I noticed that kind of boot  
problem with OpenBSD 4501 machines.  When all the speeds were not the  
same, boot would randomly hang.

You might be experiencing something different.  As Lustin has  
suggested, you might also want the change the flow control to none.
