I mentioned the single CF just to describe my configuration. At this
time I have no reason to believe that this matters. BTW my CF device
is a 4.0 GB Sandisk Extreme III.

I agree. And now that DMA is working IDE transfers are much faster.
Still I wonder what is going on with the disk light.
