[Soekris] What you mean by hardware optimization?

Hello List,

I'm not really good at hardware, but some people i work with came with
this question i couldn't really answer. When net5501 says:

"It has been optimized for use as a Firewall, VPN Router, Internet
Gateway and VoIP PBX, but has the flexibility to take on a whole range
of different functions as a communication appliance. The board is
designed for long life and low power."

What does that mean technically? Is there any short answer? any url to
point me at? What makes this hardware "optimized" for frames
switching?
