The 4801 connector is suitable for IDC connectors on ribbon cable. The
OP can avoid soldering entirely by simply using a short length of
10-way ribbon cable, press fitting the 10-way header to suit the 4801,
cut off a small bit of wire ten (after peeling it back for about 8mm)
at the DE9 end and press fit the connector. Some care needed getting
the orientations correct but it's a snack, really.

The commonest (by far) PC fitting requires soldering because it
maintains a one-to-one numbering at BOTH ends. I never did figure why
Taiwan Charlie laid out all those millions of mobos so that heaps of
underpaid workers had to solder the ribbon cable onto the DE9s.
There were some that would have suited 4801s but that changed quite
early in the PC era.

It sure kept me from whipping up an extra connector on a weekend when
the shops are not open.

The other way to do it is to buy Yawarra cases (www.yawarra.com.au)
like I do.
