I have done the "burn on PC" for a net5501 and I cannot recommend it.
It is not worth the trouble AFTERWARDS. (The disk labels were not
correct and I found no way to correct them.)
 
In the end it was much more painless to do a PXE boot
( from OpenBSD ).
