[Soekris] Running Debian on Soekris 4521

Hi,
I am having a problem with installing software with apt-get. When i try
apt-get install make for example i get

soekris:/# apt-get install make

The version of e2fsprogs running is 1.27-2.
I have tried removing it and re-installing it (left me with a dead system
and had to restore from backup)

i have tried the solution on

with much the same results as the last poster on the forum.
If anyone has seen this and/or has a solution it would be much appreciated!
