That is correct, as long as you're not planning on using the port for
a console.  The BR3xx units are all serial and have the option of
either a molded-in connector (USB or RS232) or a modular PS/2-ish plug
that will do either, plus some proprietary phone interfaces.  The
RS232 port will likely be close to straight through; I know the USB
one (which I have) has either a very large noise supressor or some
active electronics on it.  In Linux, it uses the PL2303 driver.
