Hello,
(here's a more on-topic question) I've been reading the posts about
vpn1411 trouble in the NET45xx, in conjunction with the dreaded
"Corruped MAC on input" message generated by sshd. It appears that the
bug was fixed.
These seem to be the final words of Soren Kristensen about the subject:
"If there is hardware any problem with the net4801/vpn1411 then it's
news to me, and I would like to get details.
As I said in my soekris-tech post on 9/26:
There is some issues with noise on the PCI reset line when using the
vpn1411 on the net4501, and maybe on the net4511 and net4521. There are
no known hardware problems on the net4801 or net4526.
The net45xx boards will have the problem fixed in next revision. In the
meantime the net4501 will soon ship with a small capacitor mounted to
fix the problem, if ordering net4501 to be used with vpn1411 please
ensure to get the updated board."
Conclusion was that it was fixed for the NET4801. Fact is that the
problem re-appears on the list in September 2006, now with the NET4801.
Having had the same trouble on my NET4801 recently (which disappeared
after removing the vpn1411), I wonder whether Soekris has an answer to
all this. Should the card be considered useless when running sshd? Is
there a fix? Can I get a refund for the cards? (I have two vpn1411's ==
+/- $150). Detail: purchase date for my 4801 was 07-29-2004, maybe
before the fix was made.
