[Soekris] test pyramid on desktop PC

hello,
I'd like to install pyramid on my p100 to test it and start
familiarizing with it.
I want to install it on a logical partition (/dev/hda3).

I configured grub to chainboot from hda3 and I executed
chroot /mnt/3 (the place in which I mounted hda3)
grub-install /dev/hda3

but it doesn't work, the loader started to loop with 'chain load 1.5' or
something similar

to make the sistem working again I had to delete and recreate the
partitions table.

I don't know where's the error, and I'd like to ask you about the right
procedure to follow for this installation.
