[Soekris] Bizarre serial issue (4501)

Hello,

I just bought a new 4501, and I cannot seem to make it respond when I
am connecting to it via serial.  I've got a null-modem cable, and I'm
using the correct port settings (19200 8-n-1), yet I cannot seem to
successfully connect to it on Linux or Windows. On Linux, I've tried
"dmesg | grep ttyS" when I plug it in, but that doesn't show any
devices being connected.  Is there anything I can do to confirm that
the serial port on the box is operating correctly?
