[Soekris] Cannot su to root when running openbsd 3.8 off CF

Perhaps a stupid question but can you still login as root via console or 
ssh? Can you su to any other user besides root? There should be some 
valuable info in /var/log/messages among others, hopefully one of the 
logs will
tell us exactly why su to root fails.
