That's the wrong way to plug it in. The correct way is to have the
soldered plug where the metal of the case is; i.e. remove the metal
spine from the card, and make a hole in the net4801 case for the
port.

If the card is keyed so that it can't be plugged in this way, then
the card is keyed for 5v signalling.

The nfs speed isn't too surprising, run top(1) on the 4801 and you'll
probably see a lot of cpu time spent in interrupt.
