One problem with gigabit ethernet controllers are that they consume
significant more power than 100 Mbit controllers, contradicting the low
power thing....
I was considering it, but ended up deciding on 100 Mbit controllers, due
to lower power, cost and complexity.
The next one, the net7501, will have gigabit ethernet interfaces.
