[Soekris] Installing FreeBSD 6.1 on a 2.5" Hitachi for Soekris

I had a problem similar to this when I installed FreeBSD 6.1 onto my
Soekris Net4801. In the end I had to disable DMA and the install
worked fine. Below is a link to some instructions to do what I did.

I'm not sure if this will help, but you could try it anyway. The worst
that can happen is that you'll need to re-enable it.
