CF/USB adapters (at least under linux) do not report the correct drive
geometry, and I suspect that this is the case here too...

Perhaps try one of:-
1. Installation of the os on the soekris itself, using a serial cable...
(eg. http://www.ultradesic.com/?section=22 )

2. Installation on a PC with a IDE/CF adaptor
