You don't need a fan if you don't have a HD inside (unless
your ambient temp is 40 C or you have a very hungry card
inside). The electronics don't mind 70 C.

I have cut holes left, right and directly over the HD, and put
three small (25 mm) fans (with a controlling circuit, but this
is not necessary) to the right side, so the airflow is across
the board from left to right. Works very well.

A larger fan won't work IMHO, I was not able to find anything
slim enough - you need at least 1 cm under the fan, otherwise
it won't be able to create airflow and will just fight
with the 'vacuum'...

I really think that there should be a standard slightly large
net4801 case for HD-applications - with a few holes, an inch
of height more and a HD not directly over the processor
and mounted to something able to conduct the heat etc it would
probably survive without fan too.

BTW, is there any design going on? The net4801 is good, but
a bit aged. net5501/7501 are announced for veeery long,
with unknown specs (at least the specs should be known now
if the boards are to come in 2006...). A bit of assurance
that the company lives and is able to launch new products
would be nice...

Regards
