I haven't tried that, however, I suspect that a fan will not accomplish
very much without corresponding holes in the outer case. You need a
source to draw cool air inside. Unless you intend to run open top,
however, the benefit would probably be minimal in an open top scenario.
I cut an 80mm fan template into the top right of my net4801 and drilled
exhaust holes into the left side, and it did AMAZING things for the
temperature of my machine. The hard disk and CPU run very cool now
according to OpenBSD sensor information. I can't recall the exact
numbers (they are probably somewhere in the list archive), but temps
dropped at least 20 degC across the board.
