Shouldn't be necessary but it's certainly an avenue worth exploring if 
you're having difficulty with writing to (flash,hdd) otherwise.

What do you mean by "fails reading boot" ? Are you writing to the raw 
device, or to a partition on it? What's the image you're writing?
