[Soekris] write protection

And a bit more digging (in search of something else entirely!!) unearthed
Verbatim's "Compact Flash Trio" or "CompactTrio" adapter (part no. 94447),
which takes Secure Digital, MMC, or MS and goes in a CF slot.  That may be
the answer I was after, although I don't have quite enough information to
tell whether the adapter plus an SD card would fit inside the Soekris box. 
If I don't find anything that looks better, I will find out (and will
report what I discover).

It's all the same chips, so 1M writes is generally plausible.  A better
question is whether MS is smart enough to support things like wear
leveling, which CF does but other flash formats don't.  That, I don't
know.
