Until you forget to sync, and reboot.

I prefer using a CVS server with a single image for all systems, and a 
seperate config for each system. /tmp and /var/run are dynamic ram disks,
everything else is read directly off the r/o CF.

Updating is a matter of remounting / rw and cvs updating.
