Using 1.91 or 1.96 shouldn't be overly hard using the code and hints at
http://sources.colubris.com/en/projects/freeswan/ -- I got that to work
myself (but have deliberately not documented it further).

The point is that suddenly you lose a number of security fixes
and useful features that the FreeS/WAN team has applied since 1.96,
features and specifically security fixes we deemed necessary.

This would still be invaluable, as I haven't been given the time to finish
hacking the support into FreeS/WAN 2.00... the patches I posted on the
FreeS/WAN mailinglist are at least several days work away from being useful.
