[Soekris] How to download Linux Image through the serial port.

Netboot that puppy, as previously suggested. As long as the flash looks
to Linux to be some sort of IDE device, you should be able to
format/fsck and install onto it.

Chuck:

I think you misunderstood my question. Soren provides an option to have
the CF slot removed and the flash that would be in CF form directly
mounted onto the board. Not to be confused with the other flash which
holds the BIOS. Hence you can't use the normal procedure to transfer the
Linux image since itis sodlered onto the board.

Does anybody else know if there is a way for flashing the Linux image
onto that flash.

Thank you.

Rick

Wow, a whole festival of bad questions. This is 3 of 3.

The soekris BIOS is just that, a bios.
It's not unix, it won't RUN unix. It's a BIOS.

The BIOS is used, for most intents, to get it to boot from
the "disk" which happens to be a compact Flash in our case.

You cannot/do not "upload linux through the serial port" to the flash
that is there (say it with me) for the BIOS. The BIOS is the layer
between the board and the operating system.

Further, the Soekris is not a card for another computer, it IS a
computer.
