Hi Chuck,
the OS is FreeBsd 4.8. The DS 2401 consists of a factory-lasered 64 bit 
ROM that include a unique 48-bit serial number. It's necessary to 
transmit 1byte to retrieve a 48bit sequence on 1 wire.
