Have you ever tried booting via NFS?
It seems to me it can be controlled more than booting from a CF-disk.
Even though it is less secure in a critical environment. It might just
be a bad image on the CF-disk.
The first thing I should check when the console does not respond is the
serial cable. Have you tried to use it with other pc?
